The foundation runs the following educational
institutions:
Murugappa
Polytechnic College: This academically
autonomous institution for 1400 students, today in its silver jubilee
year, is the first polytechnic college to get ISO 9001:1994 certification
in the country, first for its electronics and communication engineering
programme and then for all its diploma programmes in the year 2000.
All programmes were re-certified under ISO 9001:2000 standards in
March 2003. It meets industry's needs of skilled manpower by providing
quality education comparable with the world's most distinguished
institutions. Its practical and meaningful technical education has
been delivered through customised programmes to meet industry needs
while its academic autonomy has translated into a freedom to adapt
its regulations, curriculum and syllabi.
A number of the polytechnic's competent faculties
were trained abroad. The college was selected for the celebrated
Canada-India Institutional Cooperation Project-CIICP.
Sir
Ramaswami Mudaliar Higher Secondary School: This government-aided
co-educational institution caters to over 3000 students (standard
VI to XII) of Ambattur, a Chennai suburb, and a number of villages
in the vicinity. The school offers academic and vocational courses.
Its infrastructure comprises well-equipped laboratories, a library
with over 10,000 books, a state-of-the-art computer facility and
playground and a 3000 seater Auditorium recently constructed by
the Foundation at a cost of Rs 1.2 crore. Significantly, over 70
per cent of those enrolled are first-generation learners or from
the poorest sections of society, highlighting the role of the school
in empowering the underprivileged. The school has secured a 95.4
per cent result in the year 2006-2007 in XII Standard examination,
with the third highest mark in the district.
This school was among the first to get ISO certification
among government aided schools in 2003. In August 2006, ISO 2001:
9000 re-certification was successfully completed. The school was
a part of 'Kuruvilla Jacob Initiative for excellence in education'.
A self- assessment by the 'School core group' audited by the CII
team added further value to the quality initiatives.
Vellayan
Chettiar Higher Secondary School: The residents of the industrial
area of Thuruvottiyur in North Chennai avail this government-aided,
co-educational, higher secondary school's service. Established in
1963, Its 11.66-acre campus has good infrastructure comprising of
well-equipped workshops, classrooms, laboratories and a 4000-seater
auditorium. Over the years, its students, numbering over 4000, have
performed with distinction in curricular and extracurricular activities.
The school has secured a 99 per cent result in the year 2006-2007
in XII Standard examination, with the second highest mark in the
district.
Besides securing the highest percentage in the SSLC/HSC
examinations, a large number also qualify for the major sporting
events at the divisional and state levels. The school's teaching
staff also includes winners of the Tamil Nadu government's 'Best
Teacher' awardees.

TI
Matriculation Higher Secondary School: One of the few ISO 9001:2000
certified schools in India, this co-educational school fulfils the
need for an English medium institution in West Chennai. It functions
more like an educational research institute than a conventional
school. It offers liberal education from the pre-primary level to
the higher secondary level by introducing young minds to the joy
of learning without fear of punishment.
Students voluntarily taking examinations without
invigilation is one of the value building activities practiced by
the school. The school is also implementing a new concept of designing
and developing its own text books. Among a host of state of the
art, innovative facilities the school also has safe drinking water
[purified by Reverse Osmosis System], user-friendly fire safety
systems - students and staff trained to handle them, Tort Insurance'
[group personal accident policy] for all students. The School has
performed with distinction in curricular and extracurricular activities.
The school has secured a 99 per cent result in the year 2006-2007
in XII Standard examination, with 79 per cent of the students passing
with distinction.
AMM
Matriculation Higher Secondary School: This institution stands
out midst its sylvan surroundings in South Chennai. Established
in 1985, the AMM Matriculation Higher Secondary School follows a
unique curriculum that provides a judicious mix of the academic
and the co-curricular activities like sports, yoga and fine arts.
Special emphasis on personality development, communication skills
and character building facilitate all-round student development.
The school's infrastructure comprises a well-stocked as well as
