Hospital
This 83-year old institution established in 1924 was
the forerunner of a series of healthcare institutions subsequently
established by the AMM Foundation. It has offered free medical treatment
to almost 1 lakh patients in 2006-07, irrespective of social or
economic status, a fitting memorial to the compassion of its founder.
Its team of committed doctors and paramedical staff are engaged
in community-friendly initiatives across family welfare, leprosy-eradication
and eye care.

Ivan Stedeford Hospital
Named after a benevolent Englishman
who once headed TI-England and contributed sophisticated imported
equipment, this multi-speciality hospital located in Ambattur annually
serves nearly 5 lakh patients from 50 neighbouring villages. With
200 beds and 20 cradles for new-born babies, the ISO 9001: 2000
facility performs 5,000 surgeries a year and provides specialised
services in cardiology, diabetology, dermatology, paediatrics, gynaecology,
ophthalmology, general medicine, neurology, general surgery, orthopaedics,
dentistry and acupuncture, to mention a few. It also possesses an
intensive care unit equipped to handle emergencies. It is recognised
by the National Board of Examinations for Diplomate in General Surgery,
O&G, Family medicine, Anaesthesia and Internal medicine qualifying
as a post-graduate teaching institution.
Valliamai Achi Hospital
What began as a modest outpatient outfit
has evolved into a full-fledged hospital for 27 in-patients. Its
multi-speciality capabilities include general medicine, surgery,
paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology backed by round-the-clock
laboratory, X-ray, ECG and ultra-sound facilities. Located in Kaliyal
near Kadayalumoodu in the Kanyakumari district, it caters to the
needs of estate workers and residents of the neighbouring villages.
AMM Arunachalam Hospital
Founded in 2000, this hospital serves
residents of 75 villages in Tamil Nadu's Nellikuppam region. The
government of Japan donated a portion of the Rs.3 crore investment.
A computer network enhanced the hospital's patient-friendliness
with a marked increase in staff productivity. The hospital specialises
in several areas such as gynaecology, obstetrics, paediatrics, diabetology,
clinical cardiology, tuberculosis and chest diseases.
Murugappa Group Helps People Cope With Life
Besides offering permanent welfare services through
the schools and the hospitals, the Murugappa Group also works on
immediate relief and rehabilitation needs of the local community
caused by unprecedented incidents like the tsunami etc.
The Murugappa Group rendered
invaluable services in the villages of Cuddalore and Nagapattinam
districts, severely devastated by the tsunami. The services included
immediate relief measures such as food, utensils etc and also rebuilding
and renovating the Government Girls Higher Secondary School at the
cost of Rs.25 lakh. Twenty toilets have been built, classrooms have
been reconstructed, furniture has been provided, a basket-ball court
and kho-kho ground have been put up, drinking water facilities have
been improved. EID Parry took upon themselves the task of co-ordination
with the Electricity Board to remove a high-tension electric wire
that was running across the school premises.
Motors worth a total of Rs
28 lakh were given to the fishermen. A sum of Rs 18 lakh has been
given by AMM Foundation to the Guild of Service in which Ms Seetha
Muthiah of the Murugappa family is a patron. Rs 6 lakh were spent
on catamarans and fishing nets. The remaining Rs 12 lakh were spent
on building six houses in Pudukalpakkam village, ready for occupation.
It also donated a sum of Rs
32.40 lakh to launch a medical van to render mobile medical services
to the nearby villages.
