Shri AMM Murugappa Chettiar Research Centre (MCRC), Tharamani, is a non-government organisation, founded in 1977. One of its divisions researches into photosynthesis and energy. It is recognised by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India. The centre has worked on developing devices for rural and industrial application. In the rural development sector, designing simple technologies for the use of local artisans is its primary objective.

On the industrial front the centre interacts with Group companies to solve operational problems, especially in sectors like energy, waste management and optimum utilisation of resources.

Apart from patented technologies, MCRC also brings out a series of monographs on the technologies it has developed.
