Murugappa Youth Football Academy inaugurated in Chennai
To provide sports opportunities to underprivileged children
To use football to teach life skills, and
To use football to keep children away from anti-social activities
Chennai, 08 July 2015 : The Murugappa Youth Football Academy, set up to provide sports training and essential lifeskills training for underprivileged children below 15 years, was inaugurated today by Mr MV Subbiah, the Managing Trustee of AMM Foundation, in a simple yet symbolic ceremony in the Vellayan Chettiyar Higher Secondary School campus in Tiruvottriyur, Chennai. Mr Tarun Das, former Director General, CII participated in the inauguration ceremony. The India Youth Soccer Association (IYSA), which is the Technical Partner, was represented by its Trustee Mr Arup Das.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr MV Subbiah the managing Trustee of AMM Foundation said “Football is an excellent activity which will also help the students learn important life-skills like teamwork, leadership skills, discipline and so on, apart from being a very competitive game. We believe that this initiative will benefit the students in a holistic manner”.
The Murugappa Youth Football Academy has been set up under the aegis of the AMM Foundation, the autonomous charitable organisation supported by Murugappa Group, with technical partnership of Delhi-based India Youth Soccer Association (IYSA). The aim of the MYFA is to channelise the energies of talented youth from economically weaker sections by giving quality football coaching and also use football to teach them essential life-skills like honesty, discipline, leadership, teamwork, respect etc., keep them away from undesirable influences. Along with the football training, the selected students will also be mentored and shaped as responsible citizens.
Under the MYFA, economically weaker children under age 15 will receive professional football coaching, and will also be given nutritional supplements to improve their basic health and fitness conditions. The students will be selected based on their interest, aptitude and physical capacity. There is a two-stage selection process, including two trials, before being selected for the academy. Two coaches, both having played at the National Level, have been recruited for the academy.
About India Youth Soccer Association (IYSA)
IYSA is a not-for-profit organization setup in the year 2000 to develop football for children and youth. IYSA has run Mini and Youth Leagues in Delhi, Grassroots programs and Development squads.
IYSA currently provides training to hundreds of economically disadvantaged children through the New Delhi Josh football team development program. IYSA partners Arsenal in the Community in India with Community Coaches visiting and coaching in IYSA programs annually.
