Four Times Safety Award Winner

Commissioned in 1994, Carborundum Universal's Maniyar Power Plant is the private sector power plant in kerala and has an installed capacity of 12 MW.

Located in the picturesque Pathanamthitta District of Kerala, the power station is equipped with 3 full Kaplan S-type horizontal shaft tubular axial flow turbines coupled with 3 x 4 MW synchronous generator. The maximum head available is 14.5 meters and the rated discharge for each turbine is 33.5 cumecs. The power generated is fed into the KSEB Grid and after deducting 12 per ecnt wheeling charge, the balance is adjusted against the power consumption of Carborundum's Electrominals Plant. The plant generated an average of 33 million units annually. Till datd Maniyar has generated 2775 units of power.

The project is well recognised by forums like IREDA, Electricity Boards and other enterprenuers in the field for its success implementation and operation.The Maniyar Power Plant is certified with ISO 9001-2000 and ISO 14000 and has received consecutively from the year 2000 to 2003 the Safety Award from the National Safety Council.

In keeping with the principles followed by the group, this plaift was set up with minimal disturbance to the environment. The Kerala power department has projected the Maniyar plant as the model private sector plant in the Global Investors Meet (GIM). The plant, is unique for its dedicated team, TQM activities and World Class 5S culture.
