Kick Off — Performance Improvement Teams

Performance Improvement Teams were introduced among the employees of Carborundum Universal Ltd., Plant 2, Edapally, as an initiative to strengthen the employee involvement initiatives. All the employees of Plant 2, are included in any one of the teams, on the basis of their area of operation. The teams formed on the above basis, work on a particular project, aiming at achieving the best efficiency parameters in their area of operation. This in turn benefits them by improving their efficiency levels which in turn has an impact on the variable pay scheme.

The performance improvement teams primarily work towards improving efficiency parameters and meet periodically to discuss and review the project. There is a mentor for each team to guide them to achieve their targets.

The kick off meeting for the Performance Improvement Teams was held on December 8, 2006. The second week of December, was declared as suggestion week, to encourage suggestions from the employees to improve the efficiency parameters in their respective areas. The accepted suggestions would form the basis for the projects identified. Each team would work on this, under the guidance of Paul Justin, Manager-Engineering Services. He would be the anchor for the Performance Improvement Team and K M Joy, Ex-TQM Manager would be the facilitator for the projects.
