Tube products of India kicks off TPM in Mohalli August 7, 2004: The Mohalli plant of Tube Products of India kicks off its Total Productivity Management (TPM) initiative today. This system will serve as the foundation for improvements to the entire production process. TPM was initiated in November 2002 by the TPM guru Mr. Anjaneyulu from the Japan Institute of Plant Management and TPM activities were introduced in April 2003 at the Mohalli plant. Inaugurating the event Mr M A Alagappan, Chairman, Tube Investment of India said: “We at Murugappa Group have always believed in enhancing value to our customers in terms of quality, cost and delivery. With this we have implemented TPM in all the three plants of Tube Products” TPM means: the machine never breaks down; always operates at designed speed or faster with no minor stoppages; never produces defective products; causes minimum of startup, setup and adjustment losses; establishing and maintaining standardised methods for equipment diagnosis. It also takes care of early detection of abnormalities; spare parts management; parts replacement procedures and information systems to record equipment histories and break down data. In November 1999 this plant was acquired by Murugappa Group as part of Tube Investments of India Ltd. The Mohalli plant manufactures precision, CDW and ERW tubes catering to the auto sector, boiler, propeller shaft, cylinder bore, and side impact beam. The main customers are Hero Honda, Maruti, Yamaha, Escorts and LML. Among several other milestones, January, 2004 witnessed the crossing of 1000 tonnes CDW despatch and in March, 2004 2 lakh meters cylinder bore and clean bore were despatched. Tube Products of India has won the “Sword of Honour-2002”, an award given by the British Safety Council, U.K. and the “Oscar of the Safety World”. Besides this the plant is certified with ISO 9001-2000 and ISO 14001. Tube Investments of India Ltd. is part of the over US $ 1.2 billion Murugappa Group.
