World jury Selects India's Finest Coffees

19 April, 2005: A Panel of 12 cuppers from
different parts of the world selected India's finest coffees at Seattle
where the last round of the Coffee Board's Flavour of India
The Fine Cup Awards Cupping Competition 2005' was held along with
the annual conference of the Specialty Coffee Association of America
(SCAA). The finals were held on the premises of Tully's at Seattle.
The Fine Cup Award for India's best Arabica went to
Sargod Plantations' Plenty Valley Estate in the Annamalais region
of Tamil Nadu. The Kelagur Coffee & Tea Estates in the Chikmagalur
district of Karnataka picked up the awrd for the country's best
Robusta. The Robusta Kaapi Royale cultivated by the Paltope Estate
in the Karnataka district of coorg bagged the award for the best
specialty coffee.
In the category-wise section, Tata Coffee's Merthikan
Estate in Coorg won the award for the best Mysore Nuggets Extra
Bold. The monsooned coffee of Aspinwall, Mangalore, was adjusted
the best. The award for the best organic Arabic went to Poabs Plantations'
Seetharagundu Estate in the Nelliampathy area of Kerala. Tata Coffee's
Devaracadoo Estate in Coorg won the award for the best organic Robusta.
The awards for the best Arabica Cherry and Robusta Cherry went to
Devon Plantation's Chenekal Estate, respectively. Balanoor Plantations
also bagged both the awards for Arabica pulped sun-dried and Robusta
pulped sun-dried.
Nine regional awards were also presented, seven of
them for Arabica. Yelnoorkhan Estate. Balanoor Planations' M S Estate
and Pampadumpara Estate bagged the awards for the best Arabica in
the Baba Budan Girls region, Chikmagalur and Travancore, respectively.
JK Estate, Tata Coffee's Jumboor Estate, APFDC'S Pasdebayalu Estate
and Kelagur Estates bagged the awards for the best Arabica from
the Sheveroys region, Coorg, Araku Valley and Manjarabad region,
respectively. Devon Plantation Devon Estate and BBTC'S Choudikadu
Estate bagged the awards or the best Robusta from Chikmagalur and
Coorg respectively.
The award-winning coffees were displayed at the Coffee
Board Pavillion in the exhibition held by the SCAA as part of its
annual conference at Seattle so that delegates could sample them.
