TI Matriculation HS School receives accreditation for
“Quality School Governance” from National Accreditation
Board for Education and Training (NABET)

~The first school in South India and ninth in India to receive this prestigious accreditation~

Chennai, December 21, 2009: TI Matriculation HS School received the accreditation for “Quality School Governance” from the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET). Established by the AMM foundation in 1981, TI school is the first school in South India and ninth in India to receive this accreditation. Mrs Mini Krishnan, Editor-Translations. Oxford university press [India] presented the keynote address. The correspondent of the school, Mrs Meenakshi Murugappan and the Joint Correspondent Mrs Arun Murugappan received the Accreditation certificate from Dr Girdhar J. Gyani, Secretary General, QCI at the school premises, today.

The school was assessed by NABET on 50 parameters including governance, educational & support processes, curriculum, examination & assessments, financial resources, infrastructure, health & safety, etc for this accreditation. The accreditation is valid for four years and awarded to schools that meet the standards set for quality education by Quality Council of India (QCI), the national accreditation body of India.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. M V Subbiah, Managing Trustee of the AMM Foundation said, “I am happy that TI School has never been shy to external audits. It has always believed that an outsider will have something new to suggest for the growth of the institution. It was because of this openness that the school has transformed into what it is today. And in the process it became the first school in the city to get an ISO Certification.

After two terms of ISO recertification it was time for us to relook into our systems more critically in order to reassess our growth and introduce newer dimensions to our governance.  When the QCI started drawing standards for Accreditation for Quality School Governance, at the instance of the former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, TI School was just waiting to grab the opportunity and was one of the early birds to knock at the QCI’s doors.”

Speaking on the occasion Mrs. Sheela Ragavan, Principal, TI Matriculation HS School said “The school was the first in Chennai to be ISO certified and now it is the first in South India to be accredited. The accreditation process was a journey filled with a lot of excitement, learning, improvements and integration of various activities of the school. This process has benefitted the organization by creating a sense of belonging in each employee, clearly defining their roles, responsibilities and authority. It has also motivated the team to continue delivering high quality education to students and helped to create proactive management systems in the institution.”

The accreditation is a voluntary process which begins with the school submitting its application to NABET. Post filing the application, the NABET team visits the school to interact with the management, teachers, parents and students and records its assessment including recommendations for improvement, if any. A second review is conducted by NABET after the school acts on the teams’ suggestions and then accreditation is granted if the school meets the required quality standards.
